Ms. Sheffey is one of the Founders of the Angie’s Caring Hearts Foundation, Inc. Although she was born and raised in York, Alabama, she lived in Muscle Shoals, AL for 29 years and currently resides in Chattanooga, TN (since October 2009). She received her undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa; and began her career with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in Muscle Shoals in 1980. During her 31-year career with TVA, she held a number of management, leadership and supervisory positions. She has extensive experience in project management and planning and has managed projects with yearly budgets of $5 to $10 million.
During her 29 years in the Muscle Shoals area, Ms. Sheffey served on various community and civic boards and organizations that included Muscle Shoals City Planning Board, Colbert County Youth Center, the Shoals Chamber of Commerce Education/Workforce Development CHOICES program, and a graduate of the 2005 Leadership Shoals Class. She was also very active with her Church (Mt. Olive in Muscle Shoals), where she served as Church Secretary, Youth Bible Study Teacher, Usher Board member, and worked with various programs and groups. She was also very active with the Kappa Phi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc; and served as the Past Area Coordinator for North Alabama, Chapter President for 4 years, and held a number of other positions.
While living in Chattanooga she has continued her work with various organizations. She has volunteered with the Big Brother/Big Sister Program and the Teen Learning Center for Howard School of Academics and Technology. She is also very active with the Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and its Ivy Rose Foundation, Inc., where she has served as a member of the Board of Directors for five years and the 2019 Chairman of the Board. She has also been a volunteers with the Urban League’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program since 2013, where she prepares income tax returns for low income and other tax payers. She is a former member of the Greater Friendship M. B. Church and a current member of the Orchard Knob M. B. Church where she serves on the Usher Board, Women Ministry, Sunday school and Bible Study Classes.
Ms. Sheffey is a strong proponent of giving back to her community and believes that “it’s a privilege to help and serve others, especially those in need”.
Ms Lajuana Williams was born in Livingston, Alabama in March of 1976 and lived in the Sumter County area for approximately 9 years before leaving to live abroad. Lajuana currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia and has lived in the Atlanta area since 1995, but has maintained strong ties to the community in Sumter County through church and family. Lajuana is a member of Mt Pleasant Baptist Church in Coatopa, AL.
Lajuana graduated in 1999 from Georgia State University with a degree in Psychology and minor in Spanish, and has been working in the social services field for approximately eight-teen years. Lajuana has been working for the State of Georgia since 2002, in various Departments and positions including a supervisory position at Georgia Mountains Community Services Board. Lajuana has had experience with collaborating with various community agencies and social service organizations through her years of working with state government and for a youth shelter. Lajuana currently works for Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning, serving the state’s preschool children and their families by ensuring that safe and nurturing learning environments are provided for all children. Lajuana recently received a certification from the Program for Infant Toddler Care in California that will further assist her with providing both practical and up to date information to childcare providers and families concerning the development of their children and school readiness.
Lajuana has been actively involved in the African American Alumni Club at Georgia State University, serving as a board member and secretary. Lajuana has previously volunteered at a metro Atlanta Boys and Girls Club, Metro Atlanta Council on Drugs and Alcohol, as well as several other community improvement projects such as Hands on Atlanta.
Adam Larkin is currently the Vice President of Angie’s Caring Heart Non-Profit Organization. Adam is a native of Sumter County and graduated from Livingston High School Class of 2008. Adam holds a Bachelors Degree in Rehabilitation Services from Alabama State University, Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of West Alabama, and a Masters Degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Adam is currently the Director of Rehabilitation for Diversicare of Riverchase in Hoover, AL.
Ms. Minor received her undergraduate degree from the University of West Alabama (formerly Livingston University) in Business Administration with minors in Accounting and Economics.
After graduation, she moved to Huntsville, Alabama where she was employed with Compass Bank in their Loan and Accounting Departments for nine (9) years.
After leaving Compass Bank, She worked for two government contractors for approximately eleven (11) years in their accounting departments. She held the supervisory position in the accounting department at each of these companies. She had interface with government auditors and outside accountants for the corporations. While living in Huntsville, Ms. Minor was active in several civic organizations and held several positions within the local American Business Women’s Association (ABWA). She was a member of the Toastmasters Club, served as a reading tutor for one of the local schools within the Madison County School System and volunteered for Huntsville Hospital.
Ms. Minor was also active in her Church (Little Indian Creek P.B. Church) in Huntsville, Alabama where she served as a member of the Trustee Board, Financial Secretary, Usher Board, and worked with other church programs. She organized the Vacation Bible School and continued to oversee its administration for approximately five (5) years.
Due to health issues, she moved back to York, Alabama and became one of the caregivers for her mother (Angeline Larkin) until her death in 2008. After returning to York, Ms. Minor became a member of Mt. Tabor M.B. Church in Coatopa, Alabama where she holds the position of financial secretary, Sunday school teacher and choir member.
In 1994, Ms. Minor, along with her brother, formed Larkin & Minor, Inc –York Real Value—a grocery store. In 2001, Larkin LLC was formed with York Real Value as subsidiary and moved into Larkin Plaza. She has served as in- house accountant for the business since organization.
Cynthia is the youngest (7th) child of Marvin and the late Angeline S. Larkin. She is a product of the Sumter County school system and graduated from Livingston University’s Ira D. Pruitt School of Nursing in 1986 with a Bachelors Degree in Medical Science. She is a Certified Oncology Nurse on the national level and is also certified in Chemotherapy and Immunity Treatments.
Cynthia presently resides in Tuscaloosa County where she worked at the Druid City Hospital (DCH) Regional Medical Center for 30 years, and has over 30 years of continued experience as a Registered Nurse in the state of Alabama. Cynthia retired from DCH Regional Medical Center in January 2017 where she served as the Assistant Nurse Manager at the DCH Cancer Center. Some of her duties as Assistant Nurse Manager included being responsible for staff education, staff scheduling and monitoring the units cost control on a daily basis. Also, from 1987 to 1989, Cynthia worked part time as the Nursing Supervisor at the Green County Nursing Home where she coordinated and planned staffing and performed many other duties as needed.
Cynthia has extensive experience in cancer treatment and educating the community on cancer prevention and screening as well as general health awareness. For the past 17 years, Cynthia has been the featured speaker at several Breast Cancer Awareness programs to educate the African American community on the importance of the early detection of breast cancer and treatment options. This topic is dear to Cynthia, since she is also a breast cancer savior.
Cynthia remains active in her church and holds the position as a member of the church Sanctuary choir, Women’s ministry and member of the Wellness ministry. Her work with the Wellness ministry includes organizing the annual health fair and participating in health screening events.
Cynthia always wanted to be a nurse so that she could provide dedicated care for those in needs. Cynthia currently works part-time with Optum Home Infusion, an affiliate of United Health Group, continuing to providing care and education for those in need.
CAPT Larkin served her country for 20 yrs as a United States Navy Family Physician. Besides providing a broad range of medical care to active duty sailors, retirees and their families, she served in several leadership and administrative roles. She was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal twice for her outstanding performance as Officer in Charge Navy Branch Clinic, Nea Makri Greece and Pascagoula, MS. She was also awarded two Navy Meritorious Service Medals for her management skills as Director Clinical Services, Naval Hospital Guam and for her performance as Senior Medical Officer, Ambulatory Care Clinic New Orleans, LA.
Dr. Larkin earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of West Alabama (formerly Livingston University). She received a Doctor of Medicine degree from Howard University, Washington, D.C. in 1983 and completed a residency in Family practice from the University of Alabama, Huntsville, Alabama in 1986.
After serving her country, Capt. Larkin retried in 2008 and is currently working part time for Bay Minette Family Medicine Clinic, Bay Minette, AL and Ala One Clinic, Mobile, AL. She continue to serve her community as Vice President then President of Angie’s Caring Hearts Foundation and is active in the local church as Youth Sunday School teacher and member of several boards.

Mrs. Jackson is a graduate of the Sumter County High School of York, Alabama, Class of 1972. She was Valedictorian of her Senior Class. She received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, with a minor in Social Science, from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She also received a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of West Alabama (formerly Livingston University).
Mrs. Jackson was employed with the Sumter County Opportunity Head Start program for a few months in 1976. In September of 1976 she received employment with the Demopolis City Board of Education in Demopolis, Alabama where she served as an Elementary Teacher for 25 years. During this time she served as Treasurer of the Demopolis Education Association and a member of the Textbook Committee. She also served over 10 years as a Girl Scout Leader and Adult trainer for the Tombigbee Girl Scout Association.
After Retirement, Mrs. Jackson became a Small Business Owner where she owned and operated several small businesses, including RPL Vending of Demopolis, Alabama, RPL’S Title Loans and More, and RPL’S Home Décor and More of York, Alabama. She is currently operating RPL Vending and she serves as a Substitute Teacher for the Demopolis City School System and the Sumter County School System.
Mrs. Jackson is also active in her church and community. She is a member of the Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church of Coatopa, Alabama where she serves as Sunday School Secretary, Church Announcer, and President of the Senior Choir. She served as an usher and Treasurer of the Matron’s Department. Currently, she serves as President of the Mount Herman District Baptist Association’s Matron Department and Executive Director of Angies Caring Hearts Foundation. She is also a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
